His mother, Gertrude, than quickly marries his uncle. It follows the story of a Prince of Denmark, Hamlet, who discovers that this father, the King, was murdered by his uncle, the King’s brother. Here, Ophelia remains unable to understand Hamlet in a condition where her overprotective typical father and brother who are closed to her true feelings, dissuade her from the very onset of her heart’s affair with Hamlet. The play Hamlet, by William Shakespeare is likely the most well-known dramatic work in the English language. Society conditions women in such a way that they remain unable to decide certain things for themselves without hurting their own faculty for true judgement. In the end, when she possibly suicides, it can be said that she was a weaker character but one must understand the state of the woman in such a society which hasn’t changed much to these days. Instead of fighting herself out of such conflicts, she closes herself in a kind of maddening silence. She is too much oppressed and silenced under the unquestioned authority of her father and brother.

Only less than 2 months after her beloved husband’s death, Gertrude has married his brother, Claudius. It is told that she was the wife of the newly deceased King Hamlet and is therefore the Queen of Denmark.
